Our approach to headaches is very unique, given Dr Sader’s dual training in neurology and interventional pain management. Usually, patients are referred to either a neurologist who is good at diagnosing but doesn’t know how to treat the headaches, or a pain specialist who knows how to do the procedures but is not an expert at diagnosing.
We treat various headache disorders, from the common (migraines, “tension headaches”, cervicogenic headaches, cluster headaches) to the uncommon (increased intracranial pressure, trigeminal autonomic cephalalgias such as paroxysmal hemicrania).
We use a multi-modal approach to treat headaches, using a combination of medications and procedures. The goal is to have > 50% reduction in headache frequency, severity, and duration. We can often achieve this with monotherapy (for example, Botox only, or occipital blocks only) but sometimes we need to combine that with a medication (often CGRPs).
Dr Sader’s approach to headaches is very different from other providers you may have encountered. He usually receives referrals for patients with refractory headaches who have already seen multiple neurologists or pain docs in the past but without success and who continue to have refractory headaches. Dr Sader will likely start from the beginning, asking you specific questions about your headaches without assuming that prior diagnoses by other providers were correct.
