Migraine

Migraine

Migraine is a neurological condition that causes repeated attacks of severe headaches, often on one side of the head. The pain is usually throbbing or pulsing and can interfere with work, school, or daily activities, making even simple tasks hard to manage. Unlike regular headaches, migraines often come with other symptoms that can be quite disabling.

Migraines are thought to be caused by abnormal brain activity and changes in blood flow. Genetics play a role, and common triggers include stress, hormonal changes, certain foods, bright lights, lack of sleep, or dehydration. Understanding and identifying these triggers can help people reduce how often migraines occur.

Symptoms include head pain, nausea, vomiting, and sensitivity to light, sound, or smells. Some people experience an “aura” before the headache, such as flashing lights, zigzag lines, or tingling sensations in the face or hands. Migraines can last for hours or even days, and many people feel exhausted afterward.

Treatment includes medicines to stop the pain once it starts and preventive medicines for those with frequent attacks. Lifestyle changes such as regular sleep, hydration, stress management, and avoiding known triggers are also very important. With the right combination of care, many people find their migraines become much less disruptive.
